We all want our children to get the best start in life. For many parents and kids, snacks are unhealthy treats – packets of crisps, cupcakes, or little chocolate bars – but this doesn’t have to be the case.
There are so many really tasty things we can snack on that are just as cost-effective, and are also just as easy to buy or make.
Frozen Banana on a Stick – Put a banana on a stick, dip it in yogurt and then roll it in granola. Place on wax paper and freeze for 1-2 hours. Make these the night before and then there will be no time needed in the morning to prepare. (Milk & Milk Products; Fruit; Grains)
Apple Bagel Sandwiches – Cut a bagel in half, add one or two slices of an apple, top off with a slice of cheese then place in the oven at 375 degrees for ~ 5 minutes. (Milk & Milk Products; Fruit; Grains)
Egg Burrito – Take one whole-grain tortilla, add two scrambled eggs, sprinkle cheese, roll up and enjoy! Add peppers or top with salsa for an extra vegetable boost. (Milk & Milk Products; Vegetables; Grains; Meat & Beans)
Oatmeal – Always a quick and nutritious choice, oatmeal is especially delicious when made with milk and topped with berries, raisins, bananas or other fruit. (Milk & Milk Products; Fruits; Grains)
Fruit Cone – Chop up your child’s favorite fruit and let them fill up the cone.
It’s as easy as that!
