Family Day Activities will bring the Summer holidays to a spectacular close with these great events. There is just one week left before the kids go back to school and so we have put together some up and coming events to finish it off with a bang.
St Annes International Kite Festival
FREE Family Fun!
Weather permitting, the event promises a thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable day out for young and old alike. So pack a picnic, gather together family and friends, and head down to St Annes beach from 11.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September 2017 for All The Fun of The Air!
And don’t forget to bring your teddy bear or cuddly toy to take part in the teddy parachute drop sponsored by Excel Fostering. Each brave teddy will receive a very special certificate of achievement.
HOW TO FIND THE EVENT
Please use FY8 1NW for SAT NAV directions to all-day parking for £5.00. All profits from the carpark go towards next year’s event. Look out for the kites on St Annes Beach just off North Promenade, close to St Annes Pier. If you’d prefer not to have to park your car, the train station is just a 5-minute walk from the beach.
NEW FOR 2017 – LIGHT UP THE SKY!
Friday 1st September 8.00pm – 10.00pm
As an added bonus this year, and thanks to the generous sponsorship of local businesses, St Annes International Kite Festival weekend will start with a bit of a bang! You’ll find us on the beach near the Pier between 8.00pm & 10.00pm for the first St Annes illuminated night fly, music, and firework display to mark the start of the kite festival. Everyone welcome. Bring a torch!
Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On
The biggest night in Blackpool’s events calendar, which is being staged in association with MTV, will feature headline performances by Example and DJ Wire, Conor Maynard, Diversity and Louisa Johnson.
The free concert, to be held on the Tower Festival Headland Arena on Friday 1 September, also sees the return of Club MTV DJs R3wire and Varski, who took last year’s event by storm.
International rapper and songwriter Example has performed to sell-out audiences across Europe and worked alongside global stars including Calvin Harris and Chase & Status. He has also acted in numerous movies.
He will be joined at the Switch-On party by the hugely-talented Louisa Johnson – at 17, the youngest ever winner of The X Factor, who went on to secure major hits with Tears and So Good selling over 1 million singles.
Most importantly you will experience the illumination switch on and see all those amazing lights, which can be viewed from anywhere along the prom from South Shore to Bispham.

The Big Bad Wolf
The Big Bad Wolf – Featuring a 6-foot tall wolf puppet who has the gift of the gab and loves nothing better than making an exhibition of himself. This fey, foppish, ham actor is not as bad as his reputation portrays him. All he requires is a loving audience to practise his moves on. Instantly recognisable as one of the most famous characters from children’s fairy tales, the Wolf believes that everybody else has come out of a fairy tale too.
Children will be fascinated, adults will be laughing.
He’s big, proud and very, very loud, and also rather hairy, but underneath that thick fur coat, he’s really not that scary.
